河合隼雄（Hayao Kawai） 1928年出生於日本兵庫縣，畢業於京都大學數學系。1962年赴瑞士蘇黎士榮格研究所學習，取得日本第一位榮格學派分析師的資格。持有世界沙遊學會執照，為該會創始人之一，也是日本沙遊治療的主要推動者。河合隼雄不只是日本著名的臨床心理學家，更曾任京都大學教育學院院長、國際日本文化研究中心所長，現任日本文化廳廳長。他以深厚的心理學知識為基礎，長期於日本的文學、政治、教育、社會問題等不同領域進行論述、對話。著作甚鉅，多收錄於《河合隼雄著作集》。
